Commercial radio in Australia reached a record 12.8 million weekly listeners in GfK Survey 2, 2026, according to Commercial Radio & Audio.
The industry body notes that commercial radio audiences have remained above 12 million for nearly four years, which it frames as evidence of sustained audience stability for advertisers.
Lizzie Young, CEO of CRA, said, “A record audience in the last survey topped this survey again. When a medium delivers at this scale, this consistently, it tells you that Australians rely on local, live commercial radio — and brands can too. As Australia’s only 100% locally-owned and operated media channel, every advertising dollar supports local journalism, emergency broadcasting and thousands of Australian jobs. That combination of resilient scale and trusted community connection is what makes commercial radio unique.”
CRA links the result to broader shifts in listening behavior, pointing to an “audio everywhere” model where audiences move between AM, FM, DAB+ and streaming platforms. It highlights investments in tools such as CRA Audio ID and RadioApp as part of efforts to provide advertisers with more precise and measurable audience data.
The organization also positions radio as an effective advertising channel, citing figures showing a 2:1 return on investment and stronger pricing performance when audio is included in campaigns.
