Commercial Radio & Audio has released the March edition of the Australian Podcast Ranker, with news remaining the most-listened-to genre and “Mamamia Out Loud” topping the podcast chart.

The Ranker — developed in partnership with global audio measurement and ad tech company Triton Digital — is positioned by CRA as Australia’s official, third-party verified podcast measurement system. A cross-industry steering committee governs it and draws on participation from commercial, independent and public publishers.

Lizzie Young, CEO of CRA, said the dataset continues to reflect growth in both audience reach and commercial opportunity for podcasting in Australia. She added that independently verified data gives publishers, agencies and advertisers a clearer view of audience behavior and supports more confident decision-making.

News led all genres in March with 5.67 million monthly listeners, followed by society and culture with 4.53 million and sports with 3.43 million. Comedy and true crime rounded out the top five, attracting 2.58 million and 2.42 million listeners, respectively.

Above-average engagement

In the podcast rankings, “Mamamia Out Loud” from Mamamia held the top position with 1.22 million monthly listeners. “Hamish & Andy,” produced by LiSTNR (Southern Cross Austereo), ranked second with 754,470 listeners. “ABC News Top Stories” placed third with 519,356, followed by “Sky News Australia Update” from News Corp Australia with 516,702. “MAFS Funny Podcast” from NOVA Entertainment completed the top five with 437,681 listeners.

CRA also highlighted audience behavior trends within the health and fitness category, noting that listeners in this segment show above-average engagement with financial planning and insurance decisions. According to CRA, 30% of these listeners plan to seek professional financial advice in the next year, compared with lower proportions across the broader podcast audience. In comparison, 21% intend to change or take out health insurance.

The organization added that more than half of health and fitness podcast listeners attend fitness classes regularly, compared with 35% of the overall podcast audience, suggesting a highly active and commercially responsive segment.

The Australian Podcast Ranker tracks the top 300 podcasts listened to by Australians each month, alongside the top 300 Australian-produced podcasts. The results follow IAB Podcast Measurement Technical Guidelines and are based on Triton Digital’s Demos+ survey data.
