WorldDAB has published videos of the sessions at the recent WorldDAB Automotive event in Paris, which took place in June. One of the most encouraging is the presentation by Megan Lazovick, vice president of Edison Research, of key findings of the new research study “Dashboard Dialogue.” The study sheds light on the significance of radio in the modern automotive landscape.
Through in-car interviews with radio listeners and over 2,400 online interviews, the study explores the usability and consumer preferences regarding DAB digital radio.
The study makes it clear that radio is the top choice for audio in cars — 91% of recent and prospective car buyers recognize the importance of having DAB/DAB+ or FM radio in their vehicles. In fact, 82% of prospective and 79% of recent car buyers say they would be less likely to purchase a vehicle without a radio. And if radio were to disappear from vehicles, 86% of buyers would genuinely miss it.
Drivers value radio for its ability to provide necessary news updates, traffic alerts, and weather forecasts. The enduring appeal of radio is evident, with 87% of recent or prospective car buyers finding it consistently reliable and 75% believing it provides a better listening experience than other audio sources in cars.
