Summ’it aims to connect audiences through audio storytelling
Online radio platform Radio.co has launched two new tools to simplify broadcasting and improve audio quality for internet radio stations.
The company recently introduced Live, a browser-based streaming tool that allows broadcasters to go live directly from a desktop or mobile browser without requiring additional software. Accessible through the Radio.co dashboard, Live supports built-in and external microphones, audio interfaces and mixers. It can also broadcast audio from applications running on a user’s computer, including remote interviews conducted through services such as Zoom.
James Mulvany, founder and chief executive officer of Radio.co, said the tool was designed to remove technical barriers that can prevent broadcasters from going live. “We’re over the moon to announce the release of Live, our new streaming tool designed to make broadcasting live easy with a few clicks,” he said.
Radio.co has also launched EDGE Audio Processor, a cloud-based audio processing tool designed to deliver a more consistent on-air sound to online radio stations. The software includes automatic gain control, EQ, limiting and multiband compression, and can be activated directly from the Radio.co dashboard.
According to the company, EDGE works with both scheduled and live programming and offers 16 audio presets tailored to different formats, including Top 40, talk radio, dance music and jazz.
Mulvany said audio processing has traditionally been out of reach for many smaller broadcasters because of the cost of dedicated hardware and software. “Audio processing is often the missing piece for an online station to compete with FM stations,” he said. “EDGE Audio Processor helps level the playing field, making this technology more accessible to those stations that don’t have huge budgets.”
Radio.co says Live is available at no additional cost to customers, while EDGE Audio Processor is offered as an add-on for Lite, Standard and Plus subscribers and is included with premium plans.
