United Kingdom-based broadcast engineer Andrew Kemp has selected a DHD SX2 mixing console and XS3 processing core for a transportable media-training system. The setup, which also includes a Dante multichannel audio-over-IP interface and DHD’s Views control app, was first used at Surrey Scouts’ SCRAM 2026 event in Walton-on-Thames, southwest of London.

Kemp, who has 25 years of experience across broadcast playout, post-production, asset management and media workflows, supports projects that introduce young people to broadcasting. At SCRAM 2026, the 10-fader SX2 allowed young Scout leaders to gain audio-production experience while Cub Scouts and Brownies practiced live presentation over a site-wide public-address system.
“The mixer proved an ideal training resource and encouraged the user team to propose ideas for future events,” Kemp said. He added that the system’s compact design made it easy to transport and deploy for outdoor activities. The installation combines the SX2’s four-fader central panel with a six-fader expansion module.
Each module can operate independently or form part of a larger console, and a second control layer lets the system accommodate up to 16 channels. Both panels include a 10.1-inch multitouch display showing operating and configuration information. The central panel also provides a microphone input, headphone output and direct loudspeaker connectivity, while optional licenses can add faders, buses, clean feeds, loudness metering, profanity delay and talkback between DHD mixers.
Kemp added that DHD’s Views App allows him to supervise and adjust mixer controls using a touchscreen tablet or computer. This provides an additional way to monitor trainees without taking control of the physical console.
The 1 RU XS3 IP core provides the system’s mixing and routing capacity, with integrated Dante 4×4, USB audio and eight APC ports for control surfaces and input/output modules. Users can expand the system through software licenses and AES67 or Dante IPx modules, while DHD’s optional Toolbox software provides access to more advanced configuration settings.
