
The Australian Podcast Ranker for December 2024, released by Commercial Radio & Audio and Triton Digital, highlights significant updates in the sector. Following the Guardian Media Group’s inclusion in November, the BBC has now joined the ranker alongside major publishers like the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and Mamamia. Year-on-year downloads for calendar year 2024 increased by 4% compared to 2023, demonstrating sustained growth in podcast consumption.
The top five podcasts for December included “ABC News Top Stories” by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, leading with 691,318 monthly listeners, followed by “Casefile True Crime” from Audioboom with 559,884. “Mamamia Out Loud” by Mamamia ranked third with 537,179 listeners, while “Shameless” by Shameless Media and “Hamish & Andy” by LiSTNR (SCA) rounded out the top five with 496,386 and 473,900 listeners, respectively.
Society & Culture topped the genre charts with 4,413,845 monthly listeners, followed by News with 3,844,414 and True Crime with 3,594,496. Comedy and Sports ranked fourth and fifth, attracting 2,720,492 and 2,058,450 listeners, respectively.
Among publishers, ARN/iHeart led with 3,844,703 monthly listeners. LiSTNR (SCA) secured second place with 2,480,572 listeners, followed by ABC with 2,359,382. SiriusXM Podcast Network and Audioboom took fourth and fifth place, respectively, with 2,018,705 and 1,692,232 listeners.
