Commercial Radio & Audio says total Australian radio revenue reached AU$262.1 million in Q1 2025, up 1.2% year on year, with digital audio revenue rising 32.7% compared to the same period last year.
According to CRA, digital audio — including streaming and podcasting — grew from AU$17.2 million in Q1 2024 to AU$22.9 million in Q1 2025. Metro broadcast radio revenue held steady at AU$147 million, while regional radio revenue dipped slightly to AU$92.2 million. CRA attributes the decline to short-term disruption from Cyclone Alfred, which affected parts of Queensland and New South Wales in March, leading to a temporary drop in direct advertising.
CRA says it expects the remainder of the first half of the year to maintain a growth trajectory, despite broader economic conditions.
“Our audiences have never been higher, and with advertisers recognizing our ability to deliver unrivaled reach, results and relevance, we are seeing strong demand across our total addressable market of metro and regional radio, digital streaming and podcasting,” said CRA CEO Lizzie Young.
Media analytics firm Milton Data compiled the revenue data. CRA states that broadcast figures encompass both metro and regional advertising, while digital audio encompasses both streaming and podcasting.
