Australia’s podcast industry reached another milestone in March, with the Australian Podcast Ranker reporting a record seven million average weekly listeners. The figures, published by Commercial Radio & Audio and Triton Digital, highlight continued growth in listener numbers and publisher participation.
In March, “The Mel Robbins Podcast” from the SiriusXM Podcast Network was topping the podcast chart, drawing more than 1.8 million monthly listeners. ABC’s “News Top Stories” followed with just over one million, while “Hamish & Andy” (LiSTNR/SCA), “Mamamia Out Loud” (Mamamia) and “Shameless” (Shameless Media) rounded out the top five.
Society and culture remained the most popular genre, attracting more than 5.2 million monthly listeners. News followed closely, with 5.1 million, ahead of true crime, sports and comedy.
Among publishers, ARN/iHeart led the field with 4.6 million monthly listeners. SiriusXM, LiSTNR (SCA), ABC and News Corp Australia also featured in the top five.
CRA also reported on podcast sales representation. LiSTNR (SCA), representing networks including SiriusXM, audiochuck, Wondery and NBCUniversal, topped the list with a combined reach of 9.3 million listeners. ARN/iHeart, Nova Entertainment, News Corp Australia and Nine followed.
CRA said the growth reflects a broadening ecosystem of podcast producers and increasing public appetite for on-demand audio. The Australian Podcast Ranker is an industry-backed initiative published monthly by Triton Digital. It tracks the top 200 podcasts and leading publishers and sales representatives. Data collection complies with IAB Podcast Measurement Technical Guidelines.
