Aeranti-Corallo, the association representing Italy’s local broadcasters, has welcomed the publication of the country’s communications regulator, Agcom, resolution No. 145/25/CONS, dated May 27 and published on June 10, which sets out a revised frequency plan for DAB+ in five Italian regions — Veneto, Tuscany, Lazio, Campania and Puglia.
The update addresses situations where, in 2024, DGTEL, the Ministry for Enterprises and Made in Italy, received more expressions of interest than the number of networks originally planned in Agcom resolution No. 286/22/CONS. The new resolution ensures that only the minimum number of frequencies necessary to prevent a competitive tender process has been allocated.
Aeranti-Corallo noted that its request during the public consultation under Agcom resolution No. 54/25/CONS had been fully accepted. The group had called for the planning to be restricted to what was strictly necessary to avoid the need for tenders in the five affected regions.
Looking ahead, Aeranti-Corallo expressed hope that additional frequencies will be considered during the final planning phase, once the Adriatic-Ionian coordination agreement is concluded. These, it said, would help improve interference management across regions by allowing frequency reuse at greater distances.
The group also called for technically competitive networks with improved coverage and signal intensity, even with fewer transmission sites, and for provisions to enable signal splitting to allow localized programming within a single broadcast area.
