Tech Focus: Taking the RØDECaster audio mixer and integrating the Vortex CallMe IP codec creates a cost-effective one-box solution for outside broadcast, podcasting and web streaming with Wi-Fi, Ethernet and mobile connectivity. Off-the-shelf battery packs are available to provide seven-hour standalone operation.
The CallMe-RC add-on requires no modification to the RØDECaster Pro-II or Duo, needs no special hardware interface, and is compatible with most manufacturers’ codecs that support the same standards.
For outside broadcasts, users touch one of the on-screen quick-dial buttons to connect live to the SIP-compatible Opus Studio codec for low-delay two-channel 20 kHz broadcast audio. The upgrade also supports G.711 and G.722 audio encoding.
For podcasts, to include a remote guest contributor, send them a dedicated click-and-connect web link. They click the CallMe button to connect live to the upgraded RØDECaster with 20 kHz broadcast-quality audio.
For live streaming, the upgraded RØDECaster supports Shoutcast/Icecast to connect to any web streaming service.
