A large Chinese film studio has added nearly 150 Genelec monitors to its production facilities.
Sound for movies and television is undergoing a quiet revolution as surround sound becomes de rigeur for all projects not just the gold-plated blockbusters. That means every room where sound is produced, recorded or edited needs more speakers and better speakers.
A release explained China Film Group‘s aim, “The staggering breadth of the project has seen China Film equip four 7.1.4 immersive rooms, 20 rooms with either 5.0 or 5.1 surround systems, and a further four stereo rooms — entirely with Genelec Smart Active Monitoring.”
With the monitors installed and calibrated via Genelec Loudspeaker Management software, “one of the major advantages has been the consistency of sound throughout its Sound and Picture Production Center,” the release noted.
China Film Sound Director Wang Danrong said, “Although the models in each room may differ, there is a basic consistency in all Genelec monitors.”
Helping China Film Group out in this endeavor was Digital Media Technology Co. Big Genelec 8361 three-way monitors and 8350 two-way monitors were top choices for addition.
