Radio.Cloud’s radio playout studio and programming suite is powering TJ 98.7: A Pop-Up Station — New York’s newest radio station. A partnership between Radio.Cloud, United Stations Radio Networks and Emmis Corporation, the station debuted on Saturday, Aug. 31, at the former home of ESPN Radio, WEPN-FM, in New York City. Radio.Cloud said its technology facilitated fast, localized content for the station’s launch without requiring hardware expenses.
TJ 98.7 is anchored in morning and afternoon drive by The TJ Show, marking the return of host and Z100 alumnus TJ Taormina to New York City. The pop-up station offers a mix of contemporary programming, music and talk content and contributions from YES Network’s Steve Kamer and on-air personality Jai Kershner.
“When this station was first proposed, my biggest concern was managing the technical side with such limited time,” said Taormina. “After connecting with the Radio.Cloud team, I was confident they could pull it off. They were meticulous in every detail, and the launch went smoothly.”
Technology and implementation
“Deploying the Radio.Cloud platform was quick and simple,” said Alex Roman, Emmis New York’s chief engineer. “The server is a small device that fits on a rack shelf and is integrated easily into our network with minimal configuration. The support team was ready to assist us, and we were on the air in no time. This approach to broadcast playout and content delivery is innovative.”
“When we were approached about this project, we knew it wouldn’t be possible to meet the tight deadline without our agile and scalable platform,” said Andrew Scaglione, Radio.Cloud account director. “Having our cutting-edge cloud-native technology powering one of the biggest signals in the country is a significant milestone for us.”
“I’m just beginning to explore all that Radio.Cloud can do, but so far, it seems to be an easy-to-use, versatile tool designed for radio professionals,” Taormina added.
