During the virtual presentation “DRM – Connecting All Through Innovation” on Sept. 10, key members of the Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) Consortium, including CML Micro, Gospell, RF2Digital, Fraunhofer IIS, Starwaves, Skyworks and Inntot, showcased their latest receiver solutions and upgrades to a global audience. The event featured presentations from participants across multiple continents.
The first segment of the event highlighted the benefits of DRM, such as its built-in emergency warning functionality (EWF), its role in distance learning projects, and its potential for public signage applications. An update on DRM’s global presence offered insights into recent developments in key markets, including India, China, Indonesia and South Africa.
Among the most notable announcements were the availability of end-to-end DRM solutions, ranging from transmitters to receivers. Some receivers feature Wi-Fi hotspots, while others include DAB+ or CDR capabilities. Car receiver and mobile solutions were also highlighted, along with new radio chipsets for both AM and FM, which cater to varying levels of complexity and flexible price points. These chipsets can be used for local receiver production to meet the specific needs of local audiences.
Further details on these innovations, along with additional announcements, are scheduled for Sept. 14, when the DRM Consortium will hold two in-person events at IBC2024: At the Gospell Digital Technology stand, 1.B14, at 11 a.m. CEST, when there will be a look at the latest in the company’s DRM receivers; and at 4 p.m. CEST, at the Fraunhofer stand, 8.B80, there will be a meet and greet to get the latest developments and announcements on DRM and also meet DRM experts.
On Sept. 15, at 4 p.m., Nautel will host an event for DRM members at stand 8.D70 for a session on the continued relevance of digital radio.
