Hessischer Rundfunk in Frankfurt has modernized its encoding capacity with Ferncast’s aixtream software.
According to Ferncast, the public broadcaster began using aixtream software for six of its radio programs, including regional shows. HR is using aixstream to encode content and hand it over to the CDN provider.
To do this, the company explains, the streams are available in various bitrates (MP3 Icecast, AAC HLS). This configuraton, it says, ensures listeners can always receive HR programs in the best possible quality, even with poor internet reception.
Ferncast adds that aixtream is customizable and scalable. It’s available as full installation for a server or virtualization on other hardware devices.
Version 1.11.4 features expanded support for AAC; MP3 and AES67 formats. Other enhancements include support of HTTP-based WebHook messages, more archive file types and improved error handling in HTTP upload and failover behavior.
