France Médias Monde, the group in charge of French international broadcasting, is celebrating the reopening of Notre Dame de Paris with a series of special programs.
After more than five years of extensive restoration following the fire that partially destroyed the cathedral in 2019, the doors of Notre-Dame de Paris will reopen on Saturday, Dec. 7 and Sunday, Dec. 8. These dates mark the public reopening and the first Sunday Mass. To share this globally significant event with listeners, viewers and online audiences, France Médias Monde is rolling out special coverage in French and 21 other languages.
For five years, journalists from RFI, France 24 and Monte Carlo Doualiya — three of the group’s stations — have tracked the progress of the restoration and interviewed key figures involved in the reconstruction of Notre-Dame. The stations will air documentaries, reports, interviews and analyses to highlight the significance of this historic and religious landmark, especially on an international scale.
France 24’s four language channels — French, English, Arabic and Spanish — will provide global coverage of Notre-Dame’s reopening for viewers and online audiences. Special correspondents will deliver live updates from the ceremonies, joined by guests and international commentators in the studio.
