Australian broadcast industry group Commercial Radio & Audio, in conjunction with listenership data specialist Triton Digital has released the 2024 Australian Podcast Report.
The report points to a 37% increase in the audience over the last two years though a slowing down of the increase with an 8.5% increase year-over-year for 2024.
CRA Chief Executive Officer Lizzie Young said, “Podcasting’s growth and scale are undeniable, with 63% of podcasts now achieving over 100,000 average monthly downloads in 2024. This surge is fueled by the diversity of content available and the ease of on-demand access.”
Younger demographics continue to be the biggest audience with “with 48% of younger Australians (18–34) listening in the last month. Additionally, 37% of Australians aged 35–54 and 21% aged 55+ also tuned in over the past month.”
And to no one’s surprise the top genres continue to be Society & Culture, True Crime and News.
