Rajar has released the United Kingdom’s radio audience figures for the third quarter of 2023. The figures represent all individuals over the age of 15 for the three months ending September 2023.
According to the figures, 49.5 million adults, or 88% of the measured UK population, tuned in to their selected radio stations each week in the third quarter of 2023. This quarter’s average number of weekly hours listened to radio is 1.016 billion hours, unchanged from the previous quarter.
The average number of hours listened to live radio per week is also unchanged: 20.5 hours. However, notably, there has been a growth in the number of people listening via digital platforms. Now, 70% of all listening hours are consumed on a digital device, mostly DAB; less than a third is via FM or AM.
Smartspeaker use to access radio remains more popular than via mobile or online, and a third of respondents claimed to use a smartspeaker to listen to radio every day.
