Broadcasters renew push for U.S. AM radio legislation on Capitol Hill

Aeranti-Corallo, the federation representing around 600 local radio and television broadcasters in Italy, will hold its annual RadioTV Forum on Thursday, July 9, in Rome.
The event, taking place at the Confcommercio Building’s Orlando Hall, will examine key issues facing the Italian local broadcasting sector, including the prominence of local radio and television services on audio and television devices, the development of DAB+ digital radio, local radio coverage, the convergence of distribution platforms and the transition of television services to DVB-T2 technology.
This year’s forum will also mark the 50th anniversary of local radio and television broadcasting in Italy. The anniversary follows the July 28, 1976, ruling by Italy’s Constitutional Court that ended the state monopoly on local wireless broadcasting, allowing the growth of independent local radio and television services.
The conference will open with the presentation of the “Annual Report on the State of the Local Radio and Television Sector” by Marco Rossignoli, coordinator of Aeranti-Corallo and president of Aeranti. Franco Mugerli, member of the Aeranti-Corallo executive committee and president of the Corallo Association, will also give a presentation.
Scheduled speakers include Adolfo Urso, Italy’s minister of enterprise and made in Italy; Alberto Barachini, undersecretary to the presidency of the council of ministers with responsibility for publishing; Laura Aria, commissioner of AGCOM, Italy’s communications regulator; Carola Barbato, president of the National Coordination of Co.Re.Com., the country’s regional communications committees; Antonio Martusciello, president of Audiradio, Italy’s radio audience measurement company; Paolo Lugiato, general director of Auditel, Italy’s television audience measurement company; and Domenico Affinito, deputy general secretary of FNSI, the Italian journalists’ union.
The forum will conclude with awards recognizing local radio and television companies that have operated continuously for 50 years.
