DHD marks 30 years with AI tools and firmware updates at NAB Show
During an online event on April 9, Lawo introduced the HOME mc² DSP app, a microservice-based version of the company’s A__UHD Core. This new addition to the HOME Apps family offers server-based audio processing with ultra-low latency. It is designed to work with mc² mixing consoles or to create a virtual mixing system on demand.
The HOME mc² DSP app provides audio processing capabilities suitable for integrated video/audio production settings. It features a CPU-based package that replicates the A__UHD Core FPGA platform’s functionalities. It is part of the HOME Apps platform, utilizing Lawo’s Flex licensing and subscription model for resource allocation and mobility across locations, such as production hubs and OB trucks.
Its primary function is to offer audio processing where A__UHD Core is unavailable or using HOME Apps is more convenient, allowing for the easy setup of processing cores. The app operates with ultra-low latency comparable to its hardware counterpart and supports various audio formats and configurations. It scales with CPU advancements to support thousands of DSP channels and offers flexible resource management.
“HOME mc² DSP leverages the unique granularity and flexibility of the HOME Apps platform regarding input and output media transport protocols,” said Christian Struck, Lawo’s senior product manager of audio infrastructure. “It will support mixed-format SMPTE ST2110, NDI, and SRT production environments and newer formats that may become relevant further down the line. There are no plans to discontinue the A__UHD Core as it remains the processing tool of choice for audio-only workflows in a live-sound context.”
Lucas Zwicker, senior director of workflow and integration, CTO Office at Lawo, said, “The introduction of the HOME mc² DSP app is the next milestone in Lawo’s audio history. This is not a lift-and-shift implementation of an existing product. HOME mc² DSP has been carefully re-engineered from scratch to cope with tomorrow’s requirements regarding converged audio, video and commodity-based processing infrastructures. Of course, we deliver the sonic performance our customers have come to expect from mc² mixers.”
