Day 2 of the ABU/ASBU/WorldDAB Technical Workshop 2025 will offer practical insights into implementing DAB+ digital radio systems, from headend configuration to transmission strategies and early rollout experiences.
Dr. Les Sabel, chair of the WorldDAB APAC Technical Group and producer of the workshop, will open the session with a presentation on the features of the DAB+ system, including both basic and advanced aspects. He will also examine DAB+ receivers and hybrid radios, offering technical guidance on system implementation and adoption, including key considerations and common pitfalls.
The session will continue with James Waterson, sales director at Factum Radioscape, who will present on DAB+ headend systems, including encoding, multiplexing and the use of secure and reliable transport for content delivery.
Luis Grela, managing director at TRedess, will share insights into transmitter efficiency, including the impact of trading modulation error ratio and power consumption, supported by a real-world case study.
A moderated discussion, led by Sabel, will explore early steps in establishing DAB+ through national case studies. Arthur Ariiho, manager of broadcasting infrastructure at the Uganda Communications Commission, will share Uganda’s approach to DAB+ adoption from regulatory and technical perspectives. Bander M. Alrasheedi, general manager of radio projects at the Saudi Broadcasting Authority, will present on Saudi Arabia’s DAB+ strategy, including its highway coverage plan.
