The ABU/ASBU/WorldDAB Technical Workshop 2025 will take place online, July 15–17. The three-day webinar series brings together broadcast engineers, regulators and network operators to explore the planning, deployment and optimization of DAB+ digital radio networks.
Organized annually, the workshop examines the latest developments in DAB+ system design and implementation. It is produced by Dr. Les Sabel (WorldDAB) in collaboration with Dr. Veysel Binbay (Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union) and Professor Ridha Najar (Arab States Broadcasting Union).
Dr. Sabel, an independent engineering consultant for WorldDAB and the ITU, draws on his international experience working with broadcasters, network operators and regulators across Australia and Southeast Asia. The program is designed to support countries at every stage of DAB+ rollout — from initial planning through to network expansion.
Three-day agenda
The workshop begins with an overview of DAB+ benefits and the business case for adoption. Day 1 covers technical standards, step-by-step implementation guidance and DAB+’s use as a national emergency warning tool.
Day 2 addresses transmitter upgrades, network efficiency and case studies from Uganda and Saudi Arabia. It also explores how Automatic Safety Alerts can be integrated into national broadcast infrastructures.
The final day focuses on Single Frequency Network design and cost modeling for DAB+ deployment. Speakers will also discuss why some countries are switching off FM and how DAB+ is emerging as a more efficient, cost-effective and future-proof broadcast platform.
