Tech Focus: Vortex Communications’ CallMe series is a multitalented family of broadcast IP audio codec solutions for sending/receiving 22 kHz low-delay audio-over-IP connections, including the public internet.
CallMe cloud codecs connect a studio/host to guest contributors who only need internet-connected devices using their web browsers. The CallMe diRECt-X connects up to five guests to a host’s browser (no special hardware or software download is required), each receiving a mix-minus/clean feed generated within the web application. End-to-end encrypted Opus audio can be streamed live on-air. The host can also initiate lossless in-browser recordings with individual files uploaded in the background to the host’s device in case of connectivity issues and for later editing. Nothing is stored on an external server, ensuring data protection compliance.
CallMe-RC is a fully integrated software-only add-on for RodeCaster Pro-II (shown) and Duo multifeatured audio mixers. It converts them to full-blown IP audio codecs for remote broadcast and podcasting at a fraction of the cost of a conventional codec. The solution supports industry-standard SIP multistreaming (RFC-7198), including Opus, G.722, G.711 and PCM coding algorithms.
