Commercial Radio & Audio, in partnership with Triton Digital, has published the August 2025 results of the Australian Podcast Ranker.
CRA said the latest figures highlight strong genre preferences among men aged 25–54, a demographic in peak earning years. Data from Triton Digital’s Demos+ shows 60% of this group listen to sports podcasts, 53% to technology, 51% to leisure, 46% to music and 45% to science. CRA noted that 81.4% of these listeners are employed full-time, combining purchasing power with broad content exploration.
Looking at overall audience trends, the August results confirm news remains the leading podcast genre in Australia, with 5.1 million monthly listeners, followed by society and culture with 4.6 million. Sports ranked third with just under 4 million listeners, ahead of true crime at 3.5 million and comedy at 2.9 million.
More than numbers
At the individual podcast level, LiSTNR’s “Hamish & Andy” topped the August chart with 855,000 listeners, followed closely by “ABC News Top Stories” from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) with 821,000. Mamamia’s “Mamamia Out Loud” was third with 587,000 listeners. “Sky News Australia Update” from News Corp reached 467,000, while the ABC’s “Conversations” rounded out the top five with 449,000.
Lizzie Young, CEO of CRA, said the ranker provides more than audience numbers. “It identifies the communities that directly influence consumer decisions, providing advertisers with insights to turn listeners into loyal customers,” she said.
The Australian Podcast Ranker, published monthly by Triton Digital, lists the top 300 podcasts listened to in Australia as well as the top 300 Australian-produced podcasts. Results comply with the IAB Podcast Measurement Technical Guidelines.
