Organizers of Radio TechCon have announced that the 2020 event is going virtual. With Broadcast Bionics as lead sponsor, the meeting will take place Nov. 30 from 10 a.m. to 5:15 GMT (11 a.m. to 6:15 CET)
Ann Charles from TBC Media Ltd., describes Radio Techcon as the “one-day in the year where engineers are able to share their ideas and meet others who work on the technical side of radio.” She adds that this year will be no different.
The 2020 online edition will discuss topics including lessons learned from COVID-19 and essential things broadcast engineers need to check for smooth transmission data. It’ll also focus in on a community radio station set up by a 15 year-old and the technical story behind Times Radio launching in the middle of a pandemic. Organizers say they’ll announce further topics closer to the event.
Tickets are on sale now. Registered ticket holders will receive access to an online system where they can watch the presentations, take part in Q&As and chat with other delegates and sponsors. This, emphasizes Charles, is “Just like we do at an in-person TechCon.”
For those worried about yet another ordinary day in 2020 spent in front of the computer screen, Charles says not to worry. “We want TechCon to be a proper event, like usual. That means giving the chance for the technology community to chat to each other is as important as our amazing talks,” she explained.
“Building community is such a key part of a Radio TechCon event,” she says. “We have designed the day to include our usual fascinating talks. There will also be opportunities for delegates to chat to each other in virtual breakout rooms. They will also be able to meet our sponsors, who will be showcasing their latest products. The day will be as interactive as possible — you will still very much feel part of a real event.”
What’s more, attendees from the United Kingdom will receive more than a day full of tech talk. They’ll also receive some cake too, or rather a box of treats. That’s right, Charles explains the organizers will be sending out a box of goodies to everyone based in the U.K. But they need to register by the deadline so there’s time to receive the package and “enjoy the full Radio TechCon experience.”
Broadcast Radio is sponsoring the cake.
