Belgian local radio station BOO, which serves Limburg province in the country’s northeast, near the Dutch border, has adopted Power Studio automation software as part of a broader technical upgrade designed to streamline its programming and commercial workflows.
“We knew Power Studio from our sister station LRL Radio,” said BOO station manager Jochen Brouns. “The Power Studio software takes care of radio playout, program and commercial scheduling. With our recent technical update — switching the complete audio stream to AoIP using Livewire and AES67, and upgrading our FM transmitter links from STL to VPN — BOO is now futureproof.”
Radio BOO broadcasts on DAB+ across Limburg and offers three regional FM editions for the towns of Bilzen and Lanaken, and the small city of Tongeren, alongside internet streaming.
Managing a wide range of functions
With Power Studio from Breda-based Hopla Productions, Radio BOO manages a wide range of functions, including playout, music scheduling, voice tracking and automatic content ingestion. “Alongside national and regional advertising, Power Studio enables us to schedule local commercials in each of our three FM editions. We are the first to use the Power Traffic commercial planner this way,” said Radio BOO advertising manager Chris Geerts.
Power Studio automatically switches between live, nonstop and pre-recorded programming, with built-in signal and connectivity monitoring to ensure reliability. “We’re very happy with the stability of the system,” added Brouns. “It runs continuously and allows us to focus on what really matters — making Radio BOO the leading station in the greater Limburg area.”
