Podimo says it has reached 1 million paying subscribers globally, marking a significant milestone in its expansion. Founded in Denmark in 2019, the podcast subscription platform now operates in six European and Latin American markets and, according to the company, is profitable in three of those markets.

Podimo attributes its growth to a focus on local markets, strategic acquisitions—including Dag en Nacht Media, Tonny Media, and PodAds—and its strategy of connecting listeners with regionally relevant content. The company anticipates continued expansion through 2025.
“Reaching 1 million paying subscribers is a massive achievement from our humble beginnings in Denmark,” said Morten Strunge, Podimo CEO and founder. “It’s a testament to our model of investing in local content and building strong relationships with creators. Many thought podcast subscription was a niche thing. It’s not. One million is just the tip of the iceberg, and it proves that the ceiling for this business is incredibly high when we can effectively showcase the right content to the right audience.”

Enhanced personalized recommendations and interactive features
Podimo reports strong growth outside the Nordics, particularly in the Netherlands, where it launched two-and-a-half years ago and says it has already turned a profit. “The majority of our subscribers come from markets outside the Nordics, where we’re generating 10 to 15 times more revenue per listener than advertising and putting that directly back into creators’ pockets,” said Strunge. “This is about more than just business—it’s about sharing great content and ensuring creators get the support they deserve.”
The company says upgrades to its platform have resulted in a 45% increase in listening over the past two years. Podimo subscribers now engage with an average of 20 hours of content per month, spanning three to four exclusive shows per week. The company attributes this to enhanced personalized recommendations and interactive features—including comments, in-show emojis, polls and fan profiles.
Podimo plans to expand into new markets, invest further in local talent and narrative-driven content, and enhance its platform’s integration and interactive features. “Our mission is to become the go-to destination for spoken audio entertainment and the preferred partner for creators,” said Strunge. “We’re confident that we’ll continue to reach new heights as we evolve.”
