The Library of American Broadcasting Foundation, a United States-based nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the country’s broadcast history, has launched “Past Forward,” a free quarterly newsletter that highlights key moments, figures, and developments in American radio and television.
Published in partnership with the University of Maryland, where the LABF archives are held, the newsletter draws on a wide-ranging collection of documents, recordings, scripts and photographs. The first issue includes a look at recent LABF projects and features materials from the Parks Johnson Collection. Johnson co-created “Vox Pop,” a network radio program that captured public opinion during the Great Depression, World War II and the post-war period.
LABF co-chairs Heidi Raphael, chief communications officer at Beasley Media Group, and Jack Goodman, a Washington, D.C.-based communications attorney, said the newsletter provides wider access to the archive. They also acknowledged contributions from board member Harry Jessell, web designer Kerry Thompson and the Mass Media and Culture team at the University of Maryland’s Special Collections and University Archives.
The LABF supports the preservation and public accessibility of U.S. broadcast history through educational and archival initiatives.
