Italy’s official radio audience survey, Audiradio, has released its results for the first half of 2025, showing that local stations continue to play a decisive role in the country’s media landscape.
According to the new survey, daily radio listenership stands at 35.7 million, with 44.5 million tuning in weekly. Audiradio has expanded its methodology, increasing its annual sample of telephone interviews from 120,000 to 200,000, which it says improves data accuracy and regional analysis.
Local stations drive audience growth
Of the 270 stations surveyed, 252 were local broadcasters. Together, these stations drew a combined daily gross listenership of 31.3 million. Five local stations each surpassed one million daily listeners, while nine outperformed at least one national broadcaster.
In five Italian regions — Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, Marche and Puglia — the top station overall was a local outlet, ahead of both national and regional competitors. The data underline the reach and influence of local radio across Italy, even when competing directly with national brands.
Aeranti-Corallo welcomes the results
Aeranti-Corallo, which represents more than 400 local Italian broadcasters, said the figures confirm the vitality of local radio. Coordinator Marco Rossignoli said, “We are very satisfied with today’s results. The data reveal a radio environment characterized by a strong presence of local broadcasters, overall and at all levels. Local radio is one of the fundamental pillars of the media system, proving its competitiveness, thanks to its widespread presence throughout the region, as well as its quality content for information and entertainment.”
Rossignoli also stressed the human contribution behind the numbers. “All this is made possible by the daily commitment of local radio broadcasters and their more than two thousand employees, a significant portion of whom are journalists,” he said.
He concluded that the results recognize the entrepreneurial effort of local broadcasters and encourage them “to continue their commitment to keeping pace with technological advances and offering distinctive, high-quality content.”
