NAB redesigns Spot Center for radio public service campaigns
German public broadcaster Bayerische Rundfunk recently finished an upgrade of an OB van with a Lawo Home software backbone along with Lawo hardware.

The vehicle, Ü5, has a 48-fader mc256 MkIII console as the audio centerpiece with Lawo Power Core Gateways for the console, inputs and comms. Handling audio and video I/O are .edge stageboxes. Home apps provide audio processing — Multiviewer routes video feeds and Stream Transcoder whips them into digital video shape. The truck is fully SMPTE ST 2110-compliant.
Internal networking is fiber optic and capable of herding hundreds of inputs/outputs and channels depending on the needs of any particular project.
A Lawo crystal mixer is also onboard for sidecar support.
There are three positions available in the truck providing mission flexibility.
According to the announcement, “The vehicle supports a wide range of production formats, including sports broadcasts, concert productions, and cultural events like classic open air concerts, e.g. “Klassik am Odeonsplatz.”
It has already served in several roles, transmission, recording, etc. at a number of events including classical music and jazz.
