On March 17, Dutch-speaking radio, TV and online broadcasts will support the people of Ukraine.
Public broadcaster VRT and commercial operators SBS, DPG Media and Mediahuis, who already aired the commercial campaign to support the 12-12 Consortium, aim to strengthen the solidarity in Flanders.
On March 17, presenters Danira Boukhriss Terkessidis, singer Koen Wauters and James Cooke will present a 15-hour live simulcast on TV channels Eén (VRT), VTM (DPG Media) and Play 4 (SBS). On the same day, radio stations Radio 2, MNM, Studio Brussel, Qmusic, Joe en Nostalgie will broadcast a thematic solidarity show.
The organizers say this campaign aims to raise a maximum amount of money for the Consortium 12-12 foundation to aid the Ukrainian people.
“We are very much affected by the events in Ukraine. At the same time, we see lots of initiatives in our country – people spontaneously offering shelter to Ukrainian refugees,” said the four broadcasters in a joint statement. “We want to support this wave of solidarity by all means and share stories and charity events on our six radio stations and close the day with a huge live broadcast on TV, depicting our solidarity without frontiers with Ukraine.”
Flemish Media Minister Dalle added that this action day illustrates the solidarity of the Flemish media players and their keeping a finger on the pulse of the population.
