Factum Radioscape is supporting the upcoming FáilteDAB digital radio trial in Ireland by supplying three Observa Field Monitor kits for signal analysis and coverage validation.
The FáilteDAB digital radio trial is a 12-month initiative licensed to Foothold Communications by Ireland’s Commission for Communications Regulation to enhance the country’s digital audio broadcasting landscape. It aims to provide listeners with a broader range of content than currently available via FM and has the potential to expand beyond the Leinster region during the trial period.

The Observa Field Monitors will decode and assess DAB+ signals in real time. Their built-in GPS functionality enables mobile drive surveys across the trial’s coverage area, helping stakeholders evaluate transmission performance.
Stephen Foley, managing director of Foothold Communications, said, “With 80% of radio listening happening in vehicles, and all cars sold in Ireland since 2021 equipped with DAB+ as standard, the time is right to expand and enhance this technology to reach a wider audience.”
Bauer Media Audio Ireland and Onic (formerly Wireless Ireland) are participating in the trial. With the Observa kits, they can conduct an in-depth analysis of their digital broadcasts, including signal coverage, ETI file recording, audio quality, radio text and visuals.
James Waterson, sales manager at Factum Radioscape, said, “We are delighted to support the FáilteDAB trial with our Observa Field Monitor kits. This collaboration underscores our commitment to supporting DAB trial projects and ensuring that listeners receive the highest quality audio.”
