DTS Autostage reports holiday formats lift U.S. in-car radio listening
On Dec. 2 Rádio Nacional da Amazônia began broadcasting in Digital Radio Mondiale shortwave to the Amazon region and other parts of the Americas. The tests are being broadcast on 11910 kHz on the 25 m band.
As previously reported, the group is using a 2.5 kW transmitter developed and produced in Porto Alegre by BT Transmitters. This, says DRM, is the first HF DRM transmitter to be manufactured in the country.
The transmitter is located at the public broadcaster Empresa Brasil de Comunicação HF’s transmission site in Rodeador, near the capital, Brasília. On air with 1 kW of power, DRM explains that the sender is irradiating from a huge HRS 4/4/0.5 antenna beamed to the north.
The project is the result of the partnership between the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Communications, University of Brasília and the EBC.
DRM notes that the broadcast has been picked up in northern Brazil, and as far away as Atlanta, Georgia and Canada.
