World Radio Switzerland, self-described as “Switzerland’s only English-language commercial radio station,” has been sold to Cedra Ventures GmbH, an investment group. Terms are unavailable. The seller is SwissVille Broadcasting Sarl, co-owned by Mark Butcher and Katt Cullen, who are also on-air personalities.
Cedra Ventures’ Nelson Harris said, “I am delighted to be able to shape the future of WRS, a station I listened to as a kid in my mom’s car driving around Geneva. Having run a college radio station in the U.S. in the now distant past, I know how essential a vibrant and unique station like WRS is to the community. Looking forward to build on Mark and Katt’s strong foundation.”
According to the announcement, “Operational leadership will be taken on by station manager Aurelien Chupin, who brings extensive experience in English- and French-language broadcasting in Western Switzerland, including his work at World Radio Geneva, One FM & LFM.”
He is quoted, “Our vision is to build on WRS’s strong legacy, grow its audience, and strengthen its role as a cultural connector. This station is about community — bringing expats and locals together through Switzerland’s stories, culture, and music.”
After a transition period Butcher indicated he will be retiring and Cullen will be “pursuing creative projects in podcasting and radio,” according to the announcement.
