Triton Digital has released the U.S. Podcast Report for the January 2022 reporting period (Jan. 3–30, 2022), as measured by Triton’s Podcast Metrics measurement service.
Stitcher Media remained in the top spot on the Top Networks Report with 55.4 million average weekly downloads and 13.5 million average weekly users. NPR was number 2, with 34.3 million average weekly downloads and 6.9 million average weekly users, followed by Audacy Podcast Network with 31.4 million average weekly downloads and 7.3 million average weekly users. Total weekly downloads for the top 20 publishers increased by 13% in January to 213 million average weekly downloads.
The top three podcasts include NPR News Now (NPR) in first position, Crime Junkie (audiochuck/Stitcher Media) in second spot, and The Ben Shapiro Show (Cumulus Podcast Network) in third place. For genres, the top three for January 2022 were news, true crime and comedy. On average, podcast listeners downloaded four podcasts per week.
New shows debuting this period for downloads include Brian Kilmeade Show (FOX News Podcasts). For listeners, new shows include Families Who Kill (Wondery), Two Hot Takes (Audioboom), Murder, Mystery & Makeup (Audioboom), and Headline News from The Associated Press (Audioboom).
