ANTWERP, Belgium — Belgian commercial broadcaster JOE has set up its annual Christmas House in Antwerp’s Grote Markt, the city’s main square, in front of the town hall.
The 2023 JOE Christmas House, inaugurated by Antwerp Mayor Bart De Wever during a live broadcast on Dec. 8, dazzles with 12,000 lights and two artificial snow machines. The event kicked off with a rooftop concert by Dutch singer Jaap Resema.
Serving as the center for JOE’s charity campaign “Pakje van je Hart” (Gift right from the heart), the Christmas House encourages listeners to donate Christmas gifts for impoverished children. The previous year’s campaign benefited 25,000 children.
As of press time, nearly 14,000 listeners have contributed to this year’s campaign, which runs until Dec. 21.
Additionally, the Christmas House will feature 14 live concerts by artists including Hooverphonic, Metejoor, Belle Perez, and Gustaph. JOE presenters will also broadcast 286 hours of live radio from the on-site studio.
