Beijing’s 8082 Audio Studio has expanded its monitoring capabilities with the addition of Genelec’s 8381A Adaptive Point Source Main Monitors, according to a media release from Genelec.

Founded in 2019 by audio professionals Jackie Li, Sean Xu and Chocolate Zhu, 8082 specializes in immersive audio production for film, television and gaming. The studio has worked on high-profile titles including “Honour of Kings,” “Onmyoji” and “Black Myth: Wu Kong.” In 2022, it moved into a 1,500-square-meter facility that now houses seven recording studios, three mixing studios and 14 production rooms, using more than 100 Genelec monitors across its operations.
The latest upgrade saw the installation of 8381A monitors in Studio A, a 35-square-meter space originally designed for voiceover work. The studio’s founders said the system’s wide sweet spot and adaptive technology made it suitable for collaborative work across recording, mixing and production.
“Consistency is key in a facility like ours,” said co-founder Jackie Li. “Whether you’re close to or far from the monitors, the 8381A delivers a uniform sound. That’s essential when multiple engineers are working together and making decisions.”
Clarity and precision
While immersive production remains central to the studio’s activities, stereo playback continues to play a supporting role. Co-founder Chocolate Zhu said the team values the ability to work in both formats. “Whether it’s for games, film or original music, Genelec has allowed us to experience our work with a clarity and precision that opens up new creative possibilities,” he said.

Monitoring across the facility is standardized using Genelec’s Smart Active Monitors and GLM calibration software. Studio B uses three 8351B monitors for high-resolution mixing. Studios C through G rely on combinations of 8040B, 8030B, 8330A and 8030A models for editing. The studio’s larger immersive rooms — Studios X, Y and Z — are fitted with 8341A and 8361A monitors supported by 7370A and 7382A subwoofers. Genelec’s G One and F One models from its Home Audio range are also in use in meeting rooms and offices.
“GLM allows us to judge sound with confidence, without needing to invest in external calibration hardware,” said Sean Xu. “It’s fast, intuitive and ensures each room sounds exactly how it should.”
The studio recently used the 8381A system while working on the animated series “Perfect World.” According to Li, the track “Huang 荒” included both ethereal verses and a powerful chorus, and the monitors conveyed each element clearly. “It doesn’t just improve sound quality; it enhances our creative vision,” he said.
