kronehit selects Lawo and SLG Broadcast for studio modernization
The Flemish Government has approved a local DAB+ frequency plan intended to create a long-term framework for local radio stations to broadcast digitally.
Local radio stations in Flanders have sought access to DAB+ for some time, resulting in a number of trial projects involving a limited number of broadcasters.
The new local DAB+ frequency plan is intended to provide a broader framework for the regional radio sector. Because Flanders lacked sufficient frequencies to implement a fully developed plan, the design process was complex. The plan includes 10 provincial multiplexes across the region’s five provinces.

According to the Flemish Government, the frequency plan is based on three principles — providing capacity for the current 132 FM radio stations, minimizing disruptions and defining viable broadcast coverage areas. The current framework foresees two frequency blocks per province.
“Local radios play a unique role in the Flemish radioscape,” Flemish Media Minister Cieltje Van Achter said. “They provide local news and stories with recognizable presentations. Therefore I think it’s crucial to take these FM stations along in the transition to DAB+. Today we offer them clear prospects.”
