New data from Edison Research shows that AM/FM radio continues to hold the largest single share of daily audio listening among Americans aged 13 and older. According to Q2 2025 results from the company’s ongoing Share of Ear study, AM/FM accounts for just over one-third of total daily listening time, whether over the air or streamed.
However, digital platforms now dominate the broader landscape. When combined, internet-delivered audio formats — including streaming music, podcasts, YouTube for music and music videos, and online radio or satellite streams — make up well over 50% of daily listening time.

The data reflects shifting consumption patterns over the past 11 years as tracked by Share of Ear, during which new technologies, devices and services have steadily transformed how Americans engage with audio.
In addition to the latest findings, Edison Research has released a replay of its recent webinar about its “The Podcast Consumer 2025” study, presented by Vice President Megan Lazovick. The session offers insights into the evolving podcast landscape, drawing from Edison Podcast Metrics, The Infinite Dial, Share of Ear and a custom survey.
A key focus is the expanding definition of podcast consumption, which increasingly includes visual as well as audio formats.
