World Radio Alliance and egta highlight trust and reach on World Radio Day
WorldDAB has released a fully updated second edition of its ebook, “Establishing DAB+ Digital Broadcast Radio,” to coincide with World Radio Day on Feb. 13.
According to WorldDAB, the publication guides the regulatory, technical and commercial considerations involved in launching a DAB+ digital radio service. The new edition follows the original release three years ago and includes expanded material on Automatic Safety Alert, hybrid radio features, regulation and licensing models, and transmission site design aimed at cost minimization.
WorldDAB says the ebook also updates country case studies, digital adoption pathways and analog switchover processes. It is intended for markets at different stages of deployment — from those exploring DAB+ through technical trials to countries approaching permanent service status and analogue switch-off.
Updated expert advice
The guide outlines the full establishment process, from initial demonstrations and planning through operational rollout, content development, marketing and eventual analogue switch-off. WorldDAB Project Director Bernie O’Neill linked the release to World Radio Day, which UNESCO designates to recognize the role of radio worldwide.
“WorldDAB is committed to supporting radio’s vital work,” O’Neill said. “Our updated ebook aims to help broadcasters adopt DAB+ and ensure the medium can thrive in today’s digital world.”
O’Neill said the publication brings together updated expert advice and thanked Dr. Les Sabel and other contributors. He added that, alongside a forthcoming public policy toolbox and automotive research, the organization is positioned to support continued DAB+ deployment.
The ebook is available to read and download for free, below.
