Sennheiser Spectera sits at center of NEP Australia’s audio overhaul
Xperi is highlighting the potential of its HD Radio technology to support the digital transformation of India’s large and predominantly analog radio market. The U.S.-based technology company says the system delivers improved spectrum efficiency, enhanced audio quality and emergency alerting capabilities while offering a smooth migration path for broadcasters and listeners.
According to Xperi, India represents one of the world’s largest radio markets, with All India Radio, the country’s state-owned public radio broadcaster, reaching 98% of the population and more than 388 private FM stations on air as of June 2024. The company says over 80% of the population regularly tunes in to FM radio, making the country a high-potential environment for digital radio solutions.

Xperi points to HD Radio’s lower power requirements — approximately one-tenth that of analog transmission — as a strong fit for India’s energy efficiency goals. The company also highlights its complementary DTS AutoStage technology, which can provide broadcasters and advertisers with listenership data by cluster, offering a tool to drive revenue and investment in the medium.

Xperi says its development team in Bangalore has produced a smartphone with built-in HD Radio functionality and developed Bluetooth speakers featuring HD Radio in conjunction with CDAC Noida — a Center of Excellence under India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
The company states that these developments underscore its readiness to support a broad ecosystem of HD Radio-compatible devices, laying the groundwork for a scalable and locally relevant digital radio rollout in India.
