Commercial radio reaches 12.4 million weekly listeners in Australia
The International Student Broadcasting Championship has announced its 2024 winners, recognizing outstanding student talent and innovation across radio, podcasting, digital content and esports casting.
This year’s competition brought together students from universities and colleges across five continents, celebrating creativity, passion and technical expertise. Winners excelled in 38 categories, including on-air talent, podcasting, news, sports, audio and video production and social media content.
“This year’s competition exceeded all expectations, with record-breaking registration, participation and a remarkable showcase of creativity and skill from students worldwide,” said ISBC co-founder Phillip Vinciullo. “ISBC is proud to provide an international platform for students to showcase their talent to the industry on a global scale and create potential networking and employment pathways,” he said.
ISBC’s judging panel featured over 50 industry experts from 21 countries speaking 18 languages. The panel provided credible and up-to-date assessments and networking opportunities and professional development opportunities.

2024 Notable winners
The event opened with a spotlight on last year’s Station of the Year winner, Tiger Radio from the University of Santo Tomas, Philippines. This year’s top honor went to WJCU, John Carroll University, USA, for its diverse programming, including music, sports and community information.
Notable ISBC 2024 winners include the following:
- Margaret DiRoma, WOLF Radio (University of West Georgia, USA): Best New Podcast, Best Podcast Pitch, Best News Feature
- Toby Penman, Youth’s Choice (Global Academy, England): Best On-Air Talent (back-to-back wins), Best Music Presenter
- Matt & Issy for Breakfast, Shock Radio (University of Salford, England): Best On-Air Team (consecutive wins)
- Rising Star: Asha Pickering, BOOM Radio (North Metro TAFE, Australia)
- Best Specialty Show: ‘Indie Hour,’ Tshepang Moji, TuksFM (University of Pretoria, South Africa)
- Best Voiceover: Alan Grant, Juice FM (Cork College FET, Ireland)
- Best Sports Play-by-Play: Zayden Vergara, CFRC (Queen’s University, Canada)
Creating pathways for long-term success

ISBC says it will visit the U.S. in 2025 to hand-deliver the Station of the Year award to WJCU (John Carroll University) and connect with the vibrant college radio market as part of its North America tour.
