Audio imaging company Benztown Audio has released a tribute to Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Sinéad O’Connor, who has died at age 56.
Born Sinéad Marie Bernadette O’Connor in Glenageary, a suburb of Dublin, on Dec. 8, 1966, she had a difficult childhood. As a teenager, O’Connor was placed in Dublin’s An Grianan Training Centre, run by Dominican nuns. One bought her a guitar and arranged for her to receive music lessons, ultimately leading to her music career. O’Connor burst onto the global music scene in 1987 with the release of her debut album, “The Lion and the Cobra,” which sold 1 million copies in the United States alone. Her follow-up album, “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got,” included the cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” and was nominated for four Grammys, winning Best Alternative Music Performance in 1991. She released 10 studio albums between 1987 and 2014.
Through her often-controversial career, O’Connor was known for fearlessly tackling social and political issues through her music, activism, and advocacy for human rights. She leaves behind three children. A fourth child, Shane, 17, died last year.
