Ensemble pour le DAB+ urges French government to strengthen public support
Zoom has introduced the H6studio handy recorder, which it claims is its most advanced handheld recorder to date, designed for podcasters, radio professionals and other content creators who require studio-grade audio in the field.
The company states that the recorder utilizes its F-Series preamps, featuring an ultra-low noise floor of –127 dBu EIN, dual A/D converters and 32-bit float recording, which provides up to 132 dB of dynamic range. Zoom explains that this feature enables it to capture both very quiet and very loud sounds without distortion, which can be helpful for live reporting, podcast interviews and location recording.
The H6studio features a detachable X/Y microphone capsule with large-diaphragm condensers positioned at 90 degrees for stereo imaging. According to Zoom, the mics can handle sound pressure levels up to 140 dB SPL, making them suitable for a wide range of environments, from studio discussions to loud music events.
For multi-track production, Zoom claims the device can record up to eight tracks simultaneously at sample rates of up to 192 kHz, with the option to switch between 32-bit float and 16-bit/24-bit formats. Dedicated gain knobs and format toggling are included for workflow flexibility.
Zoom also highlights practical features for professional use, such as look-ahead limiters to help avoid clipping, RF shielding to reduce interference, and shock-mounted capsules to cut handling noise. The unit supports large-capacity microSD cards and can also function as a 6-in/2-out USB audio interface for direct connection to computers and mobile devices.
Battery life is up to 15 hours on four AA batteries, and USB or AC power is also supported. Zoom notes that menu navigation includes spoken guidance, a feature intended to assist visually impaired users.
