GatesAir appoints Tamjeed Ahmad regional sales manager for South Asia
Five years after launching with Mott the Hoople’s “All the Young Dudes” on Oct. 11, 2019, digital-only Belgian station Willy marked its anniversary with a celebration.
Leuven-based Willy, part of DPG Media, has been digital-only from the start, airing online, on DAB+, through the Willy app and via digital TV and streaming platforms. In five years, it has become a significant player in the Flemish radio landscape, attracting around 275,000 weekly listeners.
“We started as a small, rebellious rock station but have grown into a beacon for the Flemish rock audience,” said Charlotte Ghekiere, Willy’s channel director. “A loyal audience and a passion for music are the key ingredients for our growth.”
In the lead-up to the celebration, Willy aired the Willy 1000, a countdown chosen by the audience. On Oct. 11, during the birthday party at the Depot in Leuven, the station hosted an exclusive showcase with Belgian electronic rock band GOOSE and awarded an 18-carat gold plectrum to a listener.
Willy presenter Annelies Orye also highlighted the station’s best moments in a two-hour commemorative radio show.
