The dust has settled on The Podcast Show 2023 and the numbers are in.
The international podcast industry event returned to The Business Design Centre in Islington, London last week, and welcomed over 10,000 attendees from more than 40 countries through its doors, according to organizers.
Open to industry professionals, independent podcast creators, business leaders, emerging talent and fans alike, it was split across a Preview Night, two main show days and live evening shows. Live shows event saw the likes of Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo, Adam Buxton, Poppy Jay and Rubina Pabani, and Jon Ronson take to the stage in various venues across Islington.
Outside the United Kingdom, the United States was the most represented country at the event, which made it an appropriate event for Emily Maitlis, Jon Sopel and Lewis Goodall, co-hosts of The News Agents, to announce the launch of News Agents USA next month. Just one year after launching The News Agents, Dino Sofos, executive producer of the podcast, said: “What we’ve done here is more than redefining public service broadcasting, it’s redefining the news and how people consume the news… we’re setting the agenda…”
Speaking about the launch of his brand-new podcast Pod Save The UK, comedian Nish Kumar echoed those comments: “Many news podcasts seem to have a desire to have some sort of provable impartiality as if that’s the key to something… I think this is where the BBC looms large over lots of media. If you’re doing something mainstream, then being fair and impartial seems this immovable object you need to orbit around […]
“There’s nothing wrong with trying for impartiality, it’s a noble aim, but social media has changed people’s perceptions. And it’s a language we are tired of. Did someone ‘speak a mistruth’ or did they ‘lie’? Was someone’s comment ‘racially charged’ or was it ‘racist’. Sometimes what sounds impartial can actually be minimising, or even sanitising.”
Show organizers said they were proud to have presented a programme packed with international speakers and to have partnered with many prominent global brands.
RedTech is proud to be a media sponsor of The Podcast Show.
