Commercial radio reaches 12.4 million weekly listeners in Australia
Following recent power outages in Spain and Portugal, German consumer electronics manufacturer TechniSat is emphasising the strategic value of portable digital radios, particularly those powered by battery or solar energy.
In a message to its commercial partners, the company emphasised the ability of its DAB+ receivers to continue operating without mains power, ensuring access to critical information during a crisis.
The TechniSat range includes several models designed for mobility or emergency use. The DigitRadio 1, for example, features an Automatic Safety Alert function. Others, such as the TechniRadio Solar 2, can be recharged using a hand crank or solar panels. The Solar 2 model is powered by a 3,000 mAh lithium battery and is made from 87% recycled ocean plastic. All devices support DAB+/FM reception, and some include Bluetooth connectivity or a built-in LED torch.
TechniSat says these products enable users to stay informed during emergencies, a claim that indirectly reaffirms the role of radio in public service continuity and disaster communication strategies. By focusing on simple, compact and resilient devices, the company underscores the relevance of radio as a medium in scenarios where digital infrastructure or power networks may fail.
