Studio Berlin has upgraded its OB truck Ü2 with Lawo AoIP technology, enhancing its audio production capabilities for the 75th Berlinale film festival. The upgrade includes a 48-fader mc²56 MKIII console, replacing the previous mc²66 desk, and integrating A__stage units for I/O. The mc² DSP App now provides 256 DSP channels, allowing for scalable, decentralized signal processing.
The upgraded Ü2 truck handled live audio production for the Berlinale’s opening ceremony on Feb. 13 and the awards gala on Feb. 22. These events were live-streamed and later broadcast by Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb) and ZDF/3sat, with the opening gala also transmitted live to cinemas across Germany.

Studio Berlin’s adoption of the HOME mc² DSP App eliminates the need for dedicated DSP hardware, offering greater flexibility in managing audio resources. “This upgrade optimizes our workflow by allowing real-time adjustments without reconfiguring physical hardware,” said Mathias Heinrich, head of audio at Studio Berlin.
The transition to IP required seamless integration into Ü2’s existing 3G-SDI workflow, with Lawo’s VSM system providing centralized control. “Replacing a well-established infrastructure with evolving technology was a challenge, but the HOME mc² DSP App has proven to be a reliable and future-proof solution,” said Leonard Weißhahn, audio engineer at Studio Berlin.
With this upgrade, Studio Berlin says it is strengthening its mobile audio production capabilities, ensuring flexibility and scalability for future developments in AoIP broadcasting.
