United States-based broadcast equipment supplier and systems integrator SCMS has announced a new HD Diversity Delay application that connects Inovonics, Inc. and GatesAir products to meet FM/HD time alignment needs across multiple locations.
The application enables communication between Inovonics Model 55x modulation monitors and GatesAir’s FMXi 4g HD Radio program importer/exporter to trigger HD Diversity Delay functions in specific FM/HD alignment scenarios.
The Inovonics Model 55x series includes two rack-mounted units designed to monitor off-air FM and HD Radio signals, analyze parameters, and adjust FM/HD timing through diversity delay measurements. The Model 551 HD features an LCD display for showing modulation data and spectrum graphs, while the Model 552 provides the same functions in a 1RU format without a display.
The FMXi 4g’s embedded software architecture enables program importer/exporter functions to be used at studios, transmitters, or remote network operations centers. It was the first solution to include HD Diversity Delay software, a feature for broadcasters without hardware monitors at transmitter sites.
Enhancing user experience
The new feature was created for SCMS customers using both products who require remote connectivity to coordinate FM/HD time alignment across multiple sites. Use cases include single-frequency networks where the FMXi 4g supplies multiple transmitter sites with Model 55x monitors from a studio or NOC, or HD Radio program feeds transmitted to stations via satellite.
“This is truly a way to enhance the user experience for our common customers without requiring them to invest in new infrastructure,” said Ben Barber, president of Inovonics. “Through a simple collaboration, we have developed a functional and cost-efficient solution that addressed a specific customer requirement, requiring little more than configuring IP address and port numbers to establish communication between sites and equipment.”
GatesAir and Inovonics will discuss the collaboration at IBC2025 in Amsterdam, where they will exhibit in Hall 8 (booths B75 and B77a, respectively).
“The collaboration between GatesAir and Inovonics on this project exemplifies what true partnership looks like,” said Matt Cauthen, vice president of SCMS. “Their combined expertise and commitment to excellence directly benefits our customers, delivering innovative, reliable solutions that raise the bar for the broadcast industry.”
