Radio Mahikeng, which broadcasts from Mahikeng, the capital of South Africa’s North West province, has upgraded its central studio consoles, choosing to remain with AEQ.
Radio Mahikeng is a community station serving most of North West province, paying particular attention to gospel, reggae and local kwaito music, and providing information, entertainment and news and sports coverage for the local community. Its programming has a broadly 60–40 percentage talk/music mix. It broadcasts online and on 96.7FM.
It has built a loyal listenership to the point that more than 140,000 listeners tune in each day.
Since its launch in 2008, AEQ technology has helped power its growth. An AEQ Forum console has been the center of its daily broadcasts, and so when the time came for an upgrade to its central studios, the management decided to stay with AEQ and go fully digital.
A new AEQ Forum IP desk now sits in each of Radio Mahikeng’s new studios. Buck Broadcast, AEQ’s local partner in South Africa, completed the installation, coordinating procedures with AEQ’s central services in Madrid, Spain.
The Forum IP mixing console incorporates all the features necessary in this type of environment: automatic monitor cut-off, cough cut, fader start, signaling control, control signals for the automation of external equipment, external communications management and intercom. Its modular design and reduced size allow the Forum IP to adapt to different scenarios: self-control, control-booth, television production controls, sound production, mixed configurations and integration in large installations.
