For the second year in a row, Belgian Dutch-language public broadcaster VRT Radio 2 has relocated to the Grand Place in Roeselare, a town in the country’s West Flanders region. From Dec. 8 through 31, the station, which has a reported 23.76% share (CIM, May–Aug. 2025), is operating a full on-air studio and a “Radio 2 Winter Café” in the city’s central square.
Listeners are invited to visit the studio throughout the month and see the temporary broadcast space in action. A rooftop stage is hosting several well-known Flemish artists, including Sam Gooris, Dana Winner and Metejoor, for live performances.
Beginning Dec. 25, the station is airing its annual “Radio 2 Top 2000” countdown, featuring 24/7 live broadcasts until the year’s No. 1 song is revealed on Dec. 31. The programming is part of the station’s “Radio 2 Eindejaar” (year-end) offering, with nine presenters taking turns on air around the clock.

“During the holiday season, Radio 2 stands for warmth, atmosphere and being together,” said Radio 2 station manager Rino Ver Eecke. “The public enjoys a drink in our Wintercafé, attends live concerts in an exclusive concert concept, and gets a glimpse behind the scenes in our radio studio where the on-air staff produces the sound of Flanders’ leading station. We really look forward to meeting our listeners and closing down the year with the biggest hits in the Top 2000 countdown, voted by our listeners.”
Kris Van Veeckhoven, VRT radio realization coordinator, said the temporary on-air studio uses three DHD DX2 console units powered by a DHD XC3 core. “The DX2 desks start the Omniplayer 3 playout system in the Radio 2 main studio in Brussels,” he said. “When the 24/7 live broadcasts start, we have a small backup studio in the Roeselare town hall — an identical setup just to make sure.”
The studio provides three guest positions in addition to the presenter seat. For street interviews, reporters use Sennheiser Digital 6000 microphones with a Wisycom MTK982 transmitter and a Wisycom MPR50 IEM in-ear monitoring receiver.
